‘Pushing water up a hill’: How is burnout impacting female marketers?
Female marketers are ‘between a rock and a hard place’ when it comes to managing burnout, with stretched teams, tight budgets and a persistent gender pay gap burning women out.
Has your marketing budget been cut? Have you been working longer hours for less payoff? And are you a woman?
Burnout seems to be more prevalent than ever as the work piles up, teams get smaller and budgets get even tighter. But female marketers are perhaps feeling the burden even more acutely.
Not only are women in marketing having to deal with getting paid less for doing the same job – Marketing Week’s 2024 Career & Salary Survey identified a gender pay gap of 16% – they are also more likely to have taken on extra work without sufficient remuneration. Because while 35.9% of men report having had their workload increase without a bump in pay, this jumps to 42.3% for women.
