‘I never expected it’: How apprenticeships are opening up marketing to a wider audience
Marketing apprenticeships are on the decline, but for those lucky enough to get onto a scheme it is a career-defining opportunity that opens up the industry to a more diverse crowd.
Marketing apprentices are becoming harder and harder to find. Not for any nefarious reason but simply because the industry isn’t catering for them as much as it should.
Marketing Week’s Career & Salary Survey revealed the number of businesses offering a marketing apprenticeship has fallen to just one in five (20.6%). This is a dispiritingly low number particularly when you consider in 2023 that figure stood at a comparatively healthy one in three (33.6%).
The trend is going in the wrong direction, and a lack of resources and time to effectively run and maintain an apprentice scheme is seemingly to blame.
