‘Up is not the only way’: Samsung’s top marketer on the value of breadth
Samsung Electronics’s Sharon Hegarty says breadth of experience can be as important as simply moving upwards when it comes to shaping a career.
Samsung Electronics marketing director Sharon Hegarty often thinks of her career in terms of ‘Gs’. She started working at Vodafone on 2G mobile products and has since been involved in launch campaigns for 3G, 4G and now 5G.
Her diverse career has also achieved an unplanned circularity. When she started her working life selling mobiles at Vodafone, she had no idea subsequent roles – looking at content, music and gaming – would soon morph together.
Hegarty’s current role gives her a chance to use all of that experience with the latest generation of connected devices that can “really tell the 5G story”.
“I love driving innovation. I love making the market,” she says.
